Zapier vs Make.com vs Custom Automation: How to Choose

Not every automation belongs on the same platform. Here's how we decide which one fits a given workflow.

Zapier is the right tool when a workflow is simple, linear, and needs to be live quickly — a form submission triggering a Slack message, for example.

Make.com earns its place once a workflow needs branching logic, multiple data transformations, or has to touch more than four or five apps in one run.

Custom automation becomes the right call when the logic is genuinely specific to your business, when data volume is high enough that per-task pricing gets expensive, or when you need behaviour no-code tools simply don't support.

In practice, most mature operations end up using all three — Zapier for quick internal fixes, Make for cross-departmental workflows, and custom code for the systems the business actually depends on.
